CDC 1 --
 
• CASSI.  De-codes journal abbreviations found in article citations.  Electronic equivalent to the three volume paper CASSI.
  
  
• Chemical Abstracts on CD.  Three separate CDs for the years 1996-1998 are available.  (Note that these CDs cover the same material available in the Chemical Abstracts database via the Library Gateway.  The two primary differences between the database and CD versions are: (1) each CD-ROM covers only one year and (2) search options differ slightly between the database and the CD-ROM.)

CDC 2 --
 
• AUTONOM -- Beilstein's Automatic Nomenclature Program, version 2.1.  The software uses a proprietary algorithm based on IUPAC nomenclature rules to generate IUPAC names automatically from chemical structures.  "If you can draw it, AutoNom can name it."
  
  
• Beilstein's Current Facts for Windows, c. July 1997.  Contains facts, data and structural details excerpted from the recent chemical literature.
  
  
• Landolt-Bornstein's Comprehensive Index, 1996.  The electronic equivalent of the paper Index [Ref Q 199 L25].

CDC 3 --
 
• ICDD Powder Diffraction File (sets 1-47).  The PDF-2 Database is a collection of single-phase X-ray powder diffraction patterns in the form of tables of interplanar spacings (d) and relative intensities (Int) and chemical name and formula as well as mineral name, if applicable. In addition, Miller indices, cell data and physical properties are listed, together with references for source information, where such data are available.  The Powder Diffraction File (PDF) is the most comprehensive database for single phase X-ray powder diffraction patterns.
  
  
• TRC Comprehensive Index, April 1998.  The electronic equivalent to the paper version [Ref Q 199 T35+].  Contains information on thermodynamic data and their location in the TRC Thermodynamic Tables - Hydrocarbons, the TRC Thermodynamic Tables - Non-Hydrocarbons, and International Data Series, Selected Data on Mixtures, Series A. It also includes an index of spectral data in the TRC Spectral Data publications: Infrared, Ultraviolet, Raman, Mass,1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and 13C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.
  
  
• Wiley Registry of Mass Spectral Data, 6th ed., 1994.  A comprehensive library of 230,000 reference spectra.

CDC 4 -- 


• INSPEC, Section A, Physics Abstracts (1989-1997) .  Many users find the formula search easier in the CD-ROM version of INSPEC than in the online database (via the Gateway).

• Chemical Abstracts (Web version, 1967 - )

This is the primary chemistry database.
 
• INSPEC (Web version, 1969 - ).  The database provides abstracts and indexing to scientific and technical journals and conference proceedings in physics, electrical engineering and electronics, computing and control, and information technology.
  
  
• Science Citation Index.  ISI citation databases are multidisciplinary databases of bibliographic information indexed to be searched by subject, author, journal, and/or author address. They can also be searched for articles that cite a known author or work. Cited reference searching allows use of a given work as if it were a subject term, to identify more recent articles on the same topic.
  
  
• BIOSIS (Web version, 1969 - 1992; Web version, 1993 - ).  BIOSIS indexes and abstracts journal articles in the area of biology, covering about 9,000 serials. Reports, review articles and conference papers are also included. Biomedicine, biochemistry, microbiology and instrumentation are covered. BIOSIS includes materials in the areas of biology, zoology, microbiology, botany, biomedicine, biochemistry, pharmacology, instrumentation, toxicology, public health, neoplasms and neoplastic agents, immunology, immunochemistry, genetics, cytogenetics, veterinary science, soil science, bacteriology and biophysics.
  
  
• PubMed -- gives access to several databases published by the National Library of Medicine. Included are Medline and Pre-Medline, GenBank DNA sequences, GenBank Protein Sequences, BioMolecule 3D structures, and Complete Genomes. This resource contains links to the full text of the articles when available.
  
  
• Technical Report Server -- Contains bibliographic citations and abstracts to unclassified documents announced in Scientific and technical aerospace reports, plus the document

series produced by NASA's predecessor, The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, and the NASA open literature file containing citations and abstracts to literature in the fields of aeronautics, space science, chemistry, engineering, geosciences, life sciences, mathematics, computer sciences, and physics. 


• Toxline.  Toxline covers the adverse effects of chemicals, drugs, and physical agents on

living systems. The database is composed of several subfiles, each of which covers a different aspect of toxicology. Includes air pollution, animal venom, antidotes,   carcinogenesis via chemicals, drug evaluation, environmental pollution, occupational hazards, radiation and waste disposal.
 

• Jill Powell of the Engineering Library has prepared an excellent compilation of electronic journals available at Cornell.  Note that journal titles are removed from this list when they are added into the Library Catalog. She has also written a guide for finding electronic journals.

•  An excellent compilation of Chemistry - specific listservs has been created by Gary Wiggins at Indiana University -- http://www.indiana.edu/~cheminfo/listserv.html
