Search Tips: Articles
The Articles search box allows you to search for articles in multiple databases simultaneously. Use the drop-down menu to search a small set of preselected databases, use the Advanced Search to search larger sets of databases by subject, or hand-select the databases you want to search from the A-Z List of Databases. This type of search is ideal if it is on a topic with which you are not familiar and want some introductory articles. For targeted searches, it is best to search databases individually.
An important note about searching for articles: Because of the technical limitations of searching multiple databases, targeted searching is not recommended in this system. If you are doing in-depth research, detailed searches, or searching for a specific item, it is best to search the individual databases directly. If you are unsure what databases to search, ask a librarian.
Viewing results: Results will be grouped by database. Click on an individual database name in the "Results by Resource" box to jump to the results from a particular database, or scroll through the list. Note that only the first 25 results from each database are displayed on the initial results page; click the Next Set... button at the end of each list to view more. You may also view results sorted by relevancy, title, author, or date by using the pull-down menu at the top of the results list.
View A-Z List of Databases: Click the View A-Z List of Databases link to view a list of approximately 500 databases in various subject areas. You may create a search of any combination of databases from this list. This can be particularly useful for interdisciplinary research. Databases marked "direct access only" are not available for simultaneous searching in this interface, but may be accessed via the link in the list and searched directly.
Please note that the databases available in the Advanced Search and A-Z List of Databases represent only a fraction of the online resources available at Cornell. To access the majority of Cornell materials and the collections of many other libraries worldwide, search the Library Catalog. To access only materials available from Cornell University Library, including other reference resources, search the Classic Catalog.
System Messages or Errors: If you experience problems with databases using either system, please fill out a Problem Connecting form to notify library staff.
