Access Services Steering Committee Minutes

November 12, 2001

Present: Carmen Blankinship, Howard Raskin, Deb Lamb-Deans, and Susan Currie (recorder)

  1. E-Reserve Copyright Policy:
Deb reported on the PSEC response to the draft of the e-reserve copyright policy. The policy will be revised and then sent to Patricia McClary, Associate University Counsel.

  2. E-reserve OPAC hits:
Susan reported that Lydia and Library Systems have discovered how to count the number of hits on e-reserve materials (not pages). While there is still some work to be done on the reports, Lydia thinks that it will be possible to have this report as part of the circulation reports database. There will be more on this exciting news, but in the meantime, we need to notify staff processing reserves that we must have very consistent naming of the scanned documents in order to generate reports properly. For example, we have GOVT294 0803A.pdf and we have GOVT 294 083L.pdf. We need to be very consistent with the space. We will post procedures to circadmin-l.

  3. Electronic Document Delivery:
Following up on the reports of pilot projects at Mann, OKU, and EMPSL at the Public Services Forum November 12, we identified and began discussing what we think the main issues are for a CUL electronic document delivery. Ideally, we would like to see the same system used and plan to draft a report summarizing the results of the three pilot projects, a recommendation, and a list of the issues needing to be addressed. We drafted a beginning list of the issues for this service which include:

We would like to take the rest of the semester to complete the pilot projects, write our report, and then recommend a bigger pilot project, similar to the e-reserve implementation, where Olin and Mann use the same system with a larger control group with a CUL implementation in Summer '02.

  4. Future Agenda items: In-Building Use counts, 3M Selfcheck, Book Delivery (to CUL circulation desks) using Voyager.
