Cornell University Library

Council of Librarians

Wednesday, September 16, 1998

1. Sarah Thomas acknowledged Janet McCue's appointment as AUL for Life Sciences and Director of Mann Library.

2. Introduction of Marisue Taube, the Library's new Director of External Relations.
After introductions, Marisue reviewed her background. Her first priority is to support the University Librarian in the area of External Relations. Other priorities include: identifying and cultivating friends for the library and maintaining high visibility for the library. What's hot in University Development? They are putting together a $150 million Student Aid campaign to be completed in 1999. Last year's unrestricted gifts to the library totaled $310,000. Sarah Thomas suggested that Council members invite Marisue to visit their unit or department.

2. Gathering Information about Cornell University Library User Needs and Perspectives.
Objective 1.7 of the CUL Tactical Plan is "Increase the gathering of information about CUL user needs and perspectives; improve methods of disseminating that information within CUL; review services to ensure that they are responding to identified needs." Yasamin Diciccio, the Director of the Computer-Assisted Survey Team in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, offered some guidelines and professional guidance with regard to collecting data via surveys and she described the services her Team provides. Sarah asked that anyone interested in participating in a user survey design process contact Ed Weissman. She will name a small group to plan and oversee this undertaking.

Recorder: Donald Schnedeker
