- Foundation databases in Dialog@CARL.
After we agreed at our last meeting to delay processing of the Dialog@CARL Basic Collection because of problematic access and coverage, the desire arose to provide access to two foundation databases offered through Dialog@CARL. The group was in favor of offering access to selected in-demand resources in D@C, so David will make sure that networked resources selection forms are turned in for the foundation databases in order to trigger their processing.
- Congressional Universe.
SerialsSolutions offers title-level data for this resource, but Congressional Universe does not support title-level searching per se and offers no citation information for the search results displayed. As a result, the group agreed to continue to provide site-level access to Congressional Universe, but not provide title-level access because it doesn't really exist as such. To follow through on this decision, CTS Acquisitions will remove Congressional Universe from our SerialsSolutions data list. CTS Bib Control will note in its tracking database the decision not to provide title-level access. And, Mann IT will remove Congressional Universe "titles" from the HTML e-journal title list soon to be made available via the Gateway.
- Star Tree software.
The group discussed this Inxight topic mapping software as used in the HighWire site. We felt it was worth considering as a presentation device for the comprehensive HTML e-journal database we envision extracting from Voyager and presenting to users. Our ability to map subject content in Voyager records will guide our decisions about using a topic mapping approach. Nan will include consideration of topic mapping in the charge to the PSEC group that will study user preferences with regard to HTML lists of e-journals.
- ABEBOOKS.COM link from WorldCat.
We began discussing OCLC's enabling of links to online booksellers from their resources. Ed will gather more information and we will continue to discuss at a future meeting.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 11, 2002, at 2:00 P.M. in 702 Olin.
