Instruction/Reference
Program Committee (IRPC) Meeting Minutes, 01/20/03
1. Jean Callihan showed a prototype for a new IRPC web site. She will be looking for volunteers to help with this. To facilitate sharing of quality information, one idea is to expand the site so that it includes citations/full text for articles, presentations, web sites, and other resources relevant to instruction and reference staff. It was suggested that some recommended reading material be posted on the site to prepare for the March Retreat and that the web site might be a good place to make staff aware of new e-ref resources. If anyone has suggestions or would like to volunteer to help, please e-mail Jean at jc374@cornell.edu. 2. Nan reminded everyone about the March 17th IRPC retreat. 8am-12:30pm. All reference and instruction staff are encouraged to attend. 3. There were demonstrations of two resources recently funded by DRC: World of Learning and Digital Sanborn Maps (1867-1970). Digital Sanborn Maps includes more than12,000 American towns and cities. 4. We brainstormed about ideas for future IRPC discussion topics. 5. Ira Revels gave a presentation on Innovations In Library Instruction. The presentation included an analysis of our CUL-advertised instruction on the Library Gateway and a couple of examples of innovative instruction. The group provided feedback on her presentation.
