Notes from the meeting, May 11, 1999
Attending: Ross Atkinson, Lee Cartmill, Doug Carlson, David Corson, Tom Hickerson, Janet McCue, Helen Mohrmann, Jean Poland, Ann Stunden, Sarah Thomas, Ed Weissman, recorder
Spurred on by the recommendation of the LMS Evaluation to "enter in contract negotiations with Endeavor Information Systems, Inc., of Des Plaines, Illinois, with all reasonable speed," the LMS Steering Committee reviewed information about the status of Endeavor as a business as well as Endeavor's revised proposal. Lee reported that Endeavor's risk indicators were lower and their prospects were much more favorable than they had been a year ago. Endeavor's customer base has grown significantly. Tom reviewed Endeavor's revised proposal covering software, data migration, training, annual maintenance, and hardware, which was priced, at our request, to allow for an unlimited number of simultaneous connections to the OPAC. He also reported that Lynne Personius had requested and received hardware pricing from Sun. Buying hardware directly from Sun (rather than through Endeavor) would result in some savings. Helen, Doug and Ann indicated that from their perspective, the annual maintenance charge, which covers extensive software support from Endeavor, seems very reasonable.
The Steering Committee approved the recommendation of the Evaluation Committee. Sarah had already received the Provost's approval to "start negotiations with the intent to acquire" Endeavor's Voyager System so Tom will now send Endeavor a "letter of intent."
The Library members of the Steering Committee will hold several meetings over the next two weeks to discuss contract negotiation issues, including the list submitted by the Evaluation Committee, and implementation issues.
