SUBJECT: Library Management System

Based on the input from the Library Management System Evaluation Committee, the library management has decided to move its planned implementation date of a new library management system to the summer of the year 2000. This means that a new system will be selected about a year from now. We believe that this will enable the market to mature and to incorporate better the new generation of technologies. It will also enable us to make more progress in other areas before we dedicate ourselves to the process of conversion.

I have asked the evaluation committee to stay in touch with the development of the vendors' product lines and the state of installations throughout the coming year. This should enable us to move ahead rapidly to a decision during the spring of next year.
