- Science Team members are attending IFLA:
- Mary Ochs will be showing Mann's TEEAL [the essential electronic agricultural library] at the exhibits at IFLA in Boston next week.
- Jean Poland will be attending as the liaison from the Science and Technology Section of ACRL to IFLA.
- Mark Funk will be attending IFLA because he is on the Board of Directors for MLA.
- Nature weekly is up and running. NERL is negotiating for the monthly and review titles. It is hoped that they will also be up and running this semester.
- The Science Team will be subscribing to several of the Current Protocols journals.
- Mary Ann Liebert titles would cost $4,600. Mark pledges $2,500; Engineering, Mann and Vet will split the rest of the cost. We plan to monitor the use statistics for a year and possibly re-negotiate cost breakdown among the paying libraries. John will follow up with the publisher.
- Units will send their lists of ScienceDirect cancellations to John. John will compile them and send them to Ross. NERL wants to look at the total cancellations to avoid losing access to a specific title. There will no longer be transaction allowances.
- Pat has the paper version of the Encyclopedia of Astronomy and Astrophysics. The price for campus wide online access would be $1,966.00/year. The high annual cost is not acceptable. She will talk to Phil, as he has negotiated with this publisher already. John will send details of the Elsevier deal for encyclopedias to Pat as a model of a better deal.
- Mary proposes to send a request to DRC for Ulrich's online. It will be $1500/yr for campus wide access. Mark asked that we try to get the medical library included in the deal.
- Leah mentioned that as of Jan 1, 2002, the Royal Society of Chemistry will no longer endorse the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology, published by Elsevier. The RSC is pulling the entire editorial board and starting a new journal, Photochemical and Photobiological Sciences. Elsevier will continue to publish the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology with an all new editorial board.
- John will be the chair of DRC for one more year. John would like to set up a trial for ISI's Essential Science Indicators. In light of the new products ISI is offering, John would like to invite Scott Bard to campus. ISI has negotiated a deal for all of Canada.
- Comprehensive Composite Materials is now available online.
- Some of the Knovel e-book titles are now in the online catalog. John wants to negotiate with the company to be a mirror site for their products. The cost for the package is about $7000. They are continuing to add resources all the time.
- John has been busy answering questions from all over the world re: the "sticker shock" web site on the engineering library server. One half of all the hits on that server have been about sticker shock.
- John said that all of the O'Reilly books will soon be online.
