Science Team Minutes

11 February 1998

Present: Brumberg, Demas, Funk (via conference phone), Markowitz, McDonald, Rockey, Patterson, Saylor, Weintraub, Whitaker

1. Updates: *CPCR designations - team is nearly done, but each of us needs to tend to the few details for coordination remaining. Need to send CUMed a copy of R class. *CAS Collective Index - John is arranging for a ACS representative to visit campus to present out options.

2. Collaboration between Cornell libraries in Ithaca and NYC (CU Med) Discussed ideas for Provost's allocation to stimulate and support collaboration. Leading ideas: 1. two day symposium to explore, systematically and in-depth, avenues for enhanced cooperation in collection development, technical serivices, public services, and technolgy, resultingin a report with recommendations for implementation. 2. purchase of instruments for teleconferencing. Sam will draft brief prospectus on this set of ideas and pull together a Planning Group after administrative approval.

3. Discussed value of Table of Contents feature in cataloging records of monographs. We have questions and observations to share in CDEXEC.

4. Discussed Elsevier Science site, among others, and decided to conduct an in-depth review of the site at next meeting, using as a focus seleted titles in which we have various interests and problems. John and Jen will organize this.

5. Agreed that we want to proceed to create a central science fund to pay for approval plan receipts. John will investigate steps to be taken and work with Sam on this.
