The purpose of this group will be to review, update and supplement CUL policy on the provision of library service to users with physical disabilities. The result of your work should be a new, proposed guideline on such service, that would be recommended for adoption throughout the CUL system. Because different units have not only different physical constraints but also different rules promulgated by their respective schools and colleges, it is important that this guideline be flexible enough that it can be accepted and effected by all CUL units. At the same time, however, the guideline should define a base level of library services for the disabled, that all units would aim to meet--even though some or all units may not be adhering to all aspects of that base level of service at the present time.
In drafting these guidelines, please work closely with the Cornell Office of Equal Opportunity, specifically Joan Fisher, to ensure that the proposed guidelines comply with current State and federal requirements; she is aware that this Task Force has been formed, and she is expecting you to contact her at some point.
