Social Science Selectors Team Meeting
February 19, 2001
Present: Phil Dankert, Chair, Michael Cook, Constance Finlay (recorder), Susan Greaves, Pam Baxter, Julie Stiles, David Block, Gregory Lawrence, Janie Harris.
-
The acquisition of SourceOECD was discussed. The subscription includes studies, periodicals, and statistics for campuswide online access, as well as one set of paper copies. Janie had prepared a summary of invoice payments for current subscriptions to paper for fiscal 1999/2000 which totalled $13233.84 for comparison purposes. The online subscription comes to $15000.00.
Greg brought up the issue of bibliographic control of the online sources. David suggested the CTS could handle it much as they currently handle a full-text database like ProQuest.
The question of who would be the library of record for the paper copies was also raised. The consensus of those present seemed to be that it would probably be either the Johnson School or Olin.
Phil will touch base with Don, Janie and the various stakeholders to determine the final answers to these questions.
- Individual Reports:
-
Pam has been approached by a Government faculty member about getting a one-year membership to the Korea Social Science Data Archive, which distributes election studies and various economic indicator datasets. The one-year cost is $2500. See http://www.ksdc.re.kr/unisql/engjap/eindex.html for information on its holdings. The faculty member is investigating funding partners, and Pam is interested in hearing from selectors who might be interested in assisting with funding.
- Michael said that Mann is reviewing its collection development guidelines and is in the process of examining the CUL collection development policy.
- Julie is looking into the issues for the library surrounding federal publications which are more and more frequently being made available in electronic format.
- Greg said Mann is reviewing its federal government publication selections.
- Constance announced that the Nestle Library now subscribes to the Euromonitor marketing databases. These include the following files, plus paper copies. Hotel is the only academic institution to have these databases.
