Social Science Selection Team Meeting

Attending: Philip Dankert (chair), Michael Engle, Charlie Finger, Constance Finlay, Susan Greaves, Janie Harris, Gregory Lawrence, and Donald Schnedeker.

1. An announcement was made that Lee LaFleur (Mann) is a new member of the group.

2. The Alternative Press Index (List of journals titles that are indexed is located at: http://www2.oclc.org/oclc/fs/fstitle/results_db_list.asp?database=Alternative+Press+Index&fulltext=%22%22&results=paged&PageSize=25&B1=List+Titles and the Alt-Press Watch (list of full text articles) is located at http://www.slinfo.com/support/download.htm (Publication list, Alt-Press Watch) were discussed. The group will ask for a trial subscription to both titles for a comparison test and for possible 519 funding.

3. Greg Lawrence discussed his proposal for a library grant to study Cornell Grey Literature. While the definition of grey literature is not yet definite it would try and capture additional writings by faculty and staff, which frequently are not easily located.

4. A discussion of the Yankee Book Approval Plan was initiated. There is a general perception that material from the plan is not always received at Cornell in a timely manner.
