Library Management Team
Notes from the June 21, 2006 meeting
Attending: Karen Calhoun, Lee Cartmill, Claire Germain, Tom Hickerson, Janet McCue, Jean Poland, Sarah Thomas, Ed Weissman, John Saylor
1) Annex Materials and Statutory Card Holders
The Library Management Team agreed to extend to Statutory Privilege Card holders the ability to borrow all circulating material held at the Library Annex, regardless of the originating collection.
2) Collections
John Saylor reported on the recently completed materials budget allocation process.
3) Collaboration with CIT on public computing
Janet reported on Mann Library's public computing partnership with CIT. Prior to the renovation project at Mann, CIT ran one of the two public computer labs and the Mann ran the other. When Mann was closed for renovation all activity was shifted to the Mann Library addition. CIT agreed to maintain the same number of public computers and some CIT staffing even though there is no CIT lab in the addition. When renovation to the original Mann building is completed, plans call for two rooms to be set aside for collaborative computing and two computer classrooms with other computers spread throughout the public areas and Janet hopes that CIT will continue its support.
4) Staff Advisory Council
Sarah sought LMT input on the creation of a Library Staff Advisory Council. The Implementation Team #9 Innovation Without Burnout report recommended building a "culture of engagement" including more opportunities for staff to make contributions and suggestions. The Council could provide an opportunity for staff to communicated to senior management issues of importance to them and to present staff opinions directly to the University Librarian. LMT discussed additional ways to address this recommendation. Sarah asked Jean to bring back to LMT a set of options.
