Library Management Team
Notes from the October 2, 2002 Meeting

Attending: Ross Atkinson, Lee Cartmill, Karen Calhoun, Claire Germain, Tom Hickerson, Anne Kenney, Janet McCue, Jean Poland, Sarah Thomas, Ed Weissman, Susan Currie

1) Collaborating with the Campus Store
Oya Rieger and Peter Hirtle met recently with representatives from the Campus Store to discuss possible collaboration opportunities with regard to e-reserve copyright clearance.  At that meeting two additional potential collaborative opportunities were raised--utilizing the Campus Store's high speed digitization service for Library e-reserves, and "one stop shopping" for library reserves, course packs and book ordering.   LMT discussed the different missions of the Campus Store and the Library and decided that merging operations/services was not optimal.  Instead, the Library and Campus Store should strive for an integrated service approach, referring business and clients to each other as appropriate.

2) e-Reserves
LMT continued the e-Reserves policy discussion that began at its August 28, 2002 meeting.  Tom provided broad projections of the cost of e-reserves royalty payments and staffing based on the Counsel's Office interpretation of the copyright law.  Policies at other institutions will be gathered by IRIS Research so that the Library can present alternative interpretations and policies used by other institutions to Counsel.  In the meantime, Sarah will discuss with the Provost and other key administrators the potential changes to the cost of providing e-Reserves and the funding of this service. LMT reaffirmed the decision to proceed with e-Reserves in the spring semester and beyond.

3) Announcements
Ross reported that the Patron Record Task Force had been formed.  Martha Hsu will serve as chair. Other members include Jesse Koennecke, Deb Lamb-Deans, Kizer Walker and Martha Walker.
