Library
Management Team
Notes from the February 5, 2003 Meeting
Attending: Ross Atkinson, Karen Calhoun, Lee Cartmill, Claire
Germain, Tom Hickerson, Anne Kenney, Janet McCue, Jean Poland, Sarah Thomas, Ed
Weissman
1) Announcements
Sarah reported
that Jeff Lehman attended the most recent Dean meeting. He expressed his
interest in international relations and in consolidating partnerships with
institutions globally. Also, he is interested in meeting with newly
tenured and/or promoted "rising stars" in each college and academic
unit who he said would "shape the Cornell University of the future."
Lastly, he said he wanted to have a better understanding about Cornell's
relationship with SUNY and New York State.
2) Library Workforce Planning
Sarah reported
that she is in the process of negotiating the terms of the charge for the
Library Workforce Planning effort and, also, the disposition of the savings
identified in this process. As the Library identifies new ways of doing
things and realizes savings, we want to utilize these savings to allow us to
accomplish new things we need to do. Sarah said that she expects things
to move quickly once the charge is approved. Questions were raised about
the relationship between Library Workforce Planning and the New Models for
Academic Support (MAS2010) Project, and concerns raised about the level of
staff involvement needed for these two initiatives. LMT will discuss the
MAS2010 Project at an upcoming meeting.
