Management Team
Notes from the April 9, 2003 Meeting
Attending: Ross Atkinson, Karen Calhoun, Lee Cartmill, Claire
Germain, Tom Hickerson, Anne Kenney, Janet McCue, Jean Poland, Sarah
Thomas, Ed Weissman, Nancy McGovern
1) Announcements
Sarah announced
that Ross had been named the Librarian of the Year by the Association of
College & Research Libraries.
2) e-Reserves Policy
Nancy McGovern
presented e-reserves policy and procedure options for consideration. She
developed these at Sarah's request based on an assessment of policies and
procedures at peer institutions and with input from Peter Hirtle on policy and
from Fiona Patrick on operational practices. LMT agreed to take certain steps
to demonstrate due diligence in complying with copyright concerns, including
informing faculty about what to do when copyright is an issue and also about
alternatives for mitigating copyright concerns. Also, LMT expressed
support for an aggressive transition to the use of licensed electronic
resources which will reduce the number of e-reserve items (and Coursepack
items) that might require payments of royalties. Anne will ask the Access
Services Steering Committee to prepare a memo to insure that all units are
following the agreed upon procedures and guidelines and she will draft a letter
to go out to the faculty with information about reserves copyright
issues. At the same time, it was noted that a growing number of faculty
are making e-reserve materials available through their course web pages and LMT
agreed that the Library should be responsive to this. Tom will ask the
Personalized Electronic Services Working Group, chaired by Angela Horne, to
look into linkages between ENCompass and CourseInfo. He will also work
with CIT on the upgrade of the BlackBoard software to the version that links
effectively with ENCompass and look into the development of course-specific
authentication systems. Sarah will discuss LMT's decisions with Pat
McClary in the University Counsel's Office.
3) Internal grants
LMT approved the
funding of the internal grant proposals recommended by the Internal Grants
Committee.
