Library Management Team
Notes from the September 17, 2003 Meeting

Attending: Ross Atkinson, Lee Cartmill, Claire Germain, Tom Hickerson, Anne Kenney, Janet McCue, Jean Poland, Sarah Thomas, Ed Weissman

1) LARIS Collection Development Review
Ross presented the LARIS Collection Development report which was prepared by a Task Force he chaired.  The members included David Block, Fred Muratori, Mary Ochs, Katherine Reagan, John Saylor and Don Schnedeker.  The Collection Development Executive Team also provided input.  The report provides options for making the selection process more efficient primarily by making collection management more "automatic" than it is now.  This would allow selectors time to be shifted into other functions.  LMT discussed the options and will consider them in the context of the other LARIS proposals.

2) Electronic Document Delivery
LMT discussed a proposal from the Electronic Document Delivery Working Group for a pilot electronic document delivery service involving the Mann, Vet and Entomology libraries beginning in January 2004.  The service, MyDocumentDelivery will, for a fee,  provide electronic/PDF copies of journal articles, book chapters and conference papers to faculty, staff and students from materials located at these three units.  It will be a fee-based because it is a convenience service.  MyDocumentDelivery will be one of the suite of personalized services that make up MyLibrary.  It is anticipated that this will be a full system-wide service once the pilot is complete, incorporating EMPSL's Scan and Delivery document delivery service.  LMT endorsed the pilot and Sarah said the Library would cover the start-up and ongoing costs centrally. She said that electronic document delivery will be seen, eventually, as an essential rather than a luxury service.

3) LARIS External Review
LMT discussed the agenda for the visit by the LARIS External Review Team: Paula Kaufmann, University Librarian, University of Illinois;  Michael Keller, University Librarian, Director for Academic Information Resources, Publisher, HighWire Press, Publisher, Stanford University Press, Stanford University; and, Ann Wolpert, Director, MIT Libraries
