Library Management Team
Notes from the July 14, 2004 Meeting

Attending: Karen Calhoun, Lee Cartmill, Tom Hickerson, Anne Kenney, Janet McCue, Jean Poland, Sarah Thomas, Ed Weissman

LMT continued its review of the recommendations in Pursuing Information Technology Efficiencies, the draft LARIS Workforce Planning information technology report. We discussed recommendations #13 and #22 dealing with administrative, managerial and operational consolidation in Library IT.

Following an extended discussion, Sarah stated that we needed more time to explore other avenues and that we will not start with administrative consolidation. Instead, we need to look at staffing and priorities and work to achieve a more effective engagement between D-LIT and Mann ITS. Only if this does not produce the necessary results will we think about going further. She said she would charge D-LIT and ITS under Tom's leadership, to come up with a plan to create an environment that will foster knowledge management and effective communications, that will identify disjunctures regarding priorities and implementation decisions, and that will allow each unit to contribute effectively to accomplish Library IT goals. She asked Tom to come up with a "game plan" with appropriate milestones prior to the August 18 LMT meeting.
