How to Renew Library Materials
In addition to calling, e-mailing, or coming into the libraries in person, borrowers
can renew or extend the loan of most materials by using the online CU Library
Catalog.
To renew a charged item(s):
- Go to the Library Catalog,
click on Patron Info, and log in with your Cornell NetID and password.
- Review the list of items charged out.
- Check the "Renew?" box next to each item that you want to renew.
- Click the "renew items" button at the bottom of the list to process the request. The new
due date will appear in the Renewal Status column. Reserve materials cannot be renewed through the online catalog.
The new due date for the material will appear in the Renewal Status column. If
an item was not or cannot be renewed, the message "
not renewed"
will display in the Renewal Status column.
Items that cannot be renewed online through the catalog include the following:
- Reserve materials
- Items that have requested by other patrons (holds or recalls)
- Items that consist of multiple pieces, e.g. videos with more than one tape
Patrons who are blocked cannot renew library materials.
A Cornell Student, Staff, or Faculty ID is blocked and his or her borrowing privileges suspended if the borrower:
- owes library bills of $300 or more
- fails to respond to one recall request
- has more than 100 overdue items
Library card holders will be blocked and borrowing
privileges suspended if the borrower:
- owes library bills of $150 or more
- fails to respond to one recall request
- has more than 15 overdue items
Please ask at a circulation
desk for more information about these policies and procedures.
