Search Results and Displays

Title, Keyword, and Donor Name Search Results Displays

Title, Guided Keyword, Command Keyword, and Donor Name searches result in a title list like the example below. The results of Title and Donor Name searches are displayed in alphabetical order. The results of Guided and Command Keyword Searches are presented in reverse chronological order - with the most recent books at the top of the list. If your search finds only one record, the information for that item will be shown rather than the title list.

"Title list" image

Selecting any of the links will bring up the record for the individual item. The box in the first column next to the item number allows you to select specific records to print, save or e-mail.

Information is given on the location, call number, and the availability status of each item in the list. Common Status notations include:

  • "Charged": The item has been borrowed from the library
  • "Not charged": The item is available in the library listed.
  • "Recall Request": The item is currently loaned to one person and has been requested by someone else. The item will be returned to the library sooner than the original due date for the use of the second reader.
  • "On Hold": The item is currently in library and is being held for a person who requested it.
  • "See record for details": Multiple copies of the item are held in one or more libraries. To find the availability of the material, follow the link to the record, where the status of each copy will be listed.

Selecting the "Next" image icon will display the next group of records.

Author, Subject and Call# Search Results Displays

Author, Subject and Call# searches result in a headings list display like the example below.

"Author list" image

Selecting any of the links calls up a title list like the one described under Title and Keyword Search Displays, if an author or subject heading has more than one record. If the heading has only one record, selecting the link will find the individual record for that item.

The "More info" image icon leads you to explanations about the form of the author's name or subject heading that may be useful in refining your searches. Selecting the "Next" image icon will display the next group of records.

Relevance Keyword Search Results Displays

Relevance keyword searches result in a title list like the example below. If your search finds only one record, the information for that item will be shown rather than the title list.

"Relevance list" image

The most relevant searches appear at the top of the list. The number of red dots in the second column of the search results indicates an item's relevance to the search. Five dots indicates the most relevant searches while one dot indicates the least.

Information is given on the location, call number, and the availability status of each item in the list. Selecting the "Next" image icon will display the next group of records.

 Individual Record Search Results Displays

Records for individual items may be displayed in three different formats:

  • The Brief View includes the Author, Title, and Publisher fields as well as the Call number and location of the item.

  • The Long View has the same fields as the brief view, but also includes the subject headings, notes, and standard number (ISSN, ISBN, etc.)

  • The MARC View displays the record in the form which is used by library catalogers and in the catalog database.
