Librarians win excellence awards
Associate University Librarian Janet McCue received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service for 2008-09 from the State University of New York. The award acknowledges her leadership, her extensive service to the campus and her professional achievements, as well as the respect and esteem of the colleagues and students who nominated her.
McCue joined Cornell University Library’s senior management team this winter, after a decade of service as director of Albert R. Mann Library and associate university librarian for the Life Sciences. Her strong leadership was evident in Mann’s successful endowment campaign, its recent large-scale renovation and several university-wide digital initiatives.
She has published on topics ranging from the culture of engaged institutions to fundraising for libraries, and she also received the SUNY award for librarianship during her tenure at Mann.
Suzanne Cohen, Collection Development Librarian at the Martin P. Catherwood Library (Industrial and Labor Relations), won the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship. This award recognizes exemplary skill in librarianship, significant scholarship, professional growth and outstanding service to the university community and the profession.
A 12-year veteran of the Catherwood Library, Cohen has participated in all aspects of public services and collection development and made essential contributions to a host of large-scale library projects. Cohen was instrumental in creating and implementing a successful digital repository, DigitalCommons@ILR, which offers access to thousands of working papers and provided 600,000 full-text downloads in the past year. Cohen has also helped develop staff training materials and programs, and she maintains an impressive publication, presentation, poster session, roundtable and workshop record of achievement.
“It’s very satisfying to be recognized for work that I love doing,” Cohen said.
