Cornell University Webinar Series: How academic libraries can contribute to global development
Please join us on April 27 at 8 p.m. ET (April 28 at 8 a.m. Beijing Time) for the final installment of a four-part webinar series organized by Cornell University Library that brings together librarians and thought leaders around the world to address the challenges outlined by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
“Three Chinese Academic Libraries’ Experiences during the COVID-19 Outbreak” will focus on actions the academic libraries took during the COVID-19 outbreak in China. Two of the libraries are in Wuhan, the epicenter, and one in Beijing. Their work will demonstrate how academic libraries can help during a public health crisis. This webinar is jointly organized with our sister library, Tsinghua University Library. It will be conducted entirely in Chinese. A group of bilingual librarians will synthesis the key points in English which will be shared along with the recording after the webinar.

About the Speakers
Yuan, Qing is the Deputy Director at Huazhong University of Science and Technology Library, member of Digital Resource Acquisition Alliance of Chinese Academic Libraries council, Director of Service Innovation of Library and Information Committee for Academic Libraries of Hubei Province. Yuan, Qing is responsible for document resources building, scientific and technological intelligence analysis, and information resources of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
Liu Xia, is currently an Associate University Librarian at Wuhan University, Wuhan, China. As a research library, Wuhan university library holds 6.8 million print volumes and 12 million volumes of e-resources. It has one main library and three branches, with the total building area amounts to 95101 m2. Almost 300 librarians and staffs work there serving all kinds of users, including 7000+ faculties and 60000+ fulltime students. Liu Xia has long working experiences on reference, subject services, and consortia development. Now she is focus on library services, IR development and serves as coordinator of several consortia.
Dr. Zhang Qiu is currently the Associate Library Director of Tsinghua University Library, Beijing, China. Tsinghua University Library, founded in 1912, is consisted of one main library and six branch libraries with over 5 million physical items, about 600 electronic databases, over 140,000 full-text e-journals and more than 20 million e-books. And Dr. Zhang Qiu is also a member of China Library Standardization Technical Committee, her main interesting area is library service and library management.
