Library Communications employs a full slate of tactics, optimized to raise awareness of the Library’s role and impact among students, faculty, decision-makers, alumni, and more. The focus areas below are over and above the existing tactics, although we will evaluate the relative effectiveness of our approaches with an eye toward work prioritization.
Internal Communications
- Consult on leadership communications as requested.
- Create and disseminate internal communications best practices.
- Work with HR to include communications best practices in the onboarding of new employees.
- Work with Facilities to make sure space projects have appropriate communications components.
- Evaluate staff web and make recommendations about its future direction.
- Evaluate 2019 staff survey findings for communications followups.
External Communications
- Work with Outreach and Engagement Librarian and the Outreach and Engagement team to continue evolving orientation activities.
- Evaluate and utilize new online tools for better work effectiveness (such as Slack, social media reporting and management).
- Create calendar of repeat events that need communication plans.
- Work with curators across the system, increase compelling special collections coverage on social media as part of a balanced library social media presence.
- Strive to get Cornell Chronicle metrics and evaluate their usefulness for work prioritization.
- Evaluate opt-in email list for library news/events/updates.
- Evaluate survey findings for possible communications followups (faculty 2021, undergrad 2022, grad 2023).
We will reevaluate these focus areas regularly, especially in light of expected major developments such as:
- Fine-tuning of strategic priorities.
- Changes to CUL collection development model.
- Upcoming development needs.
- Continued space improvements in Olin and Uris.
- FOLIO migration.
- Global impact and sustainable development webinar series.
- New services anticipated: Open Journal System, expanded textbook service, privacy, grant editing.
