VIVO: Enabling National Networking of Scientists

An open information infrastructure that facilitates the discovery of researchers and promote collaboration among scientists and other researchers. With funding from the National Institutes of Health, software developers, ontologists, librarians, and outreach specialists at the Cornell University Library have worked with colleagues from the University of Florida and Indiana University to enhance the VIVO software and support implementations at four additional institutions: Weill Cornell Medical College, Ponce School of Medicine, The Scripps Research Institute, and the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. VIVO is now a fully open platform with a growing worldwide community focused on the collection, connection, sharing, and discovery of information about research. VIVO has recently joined DuraSpace, a collaborative not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving the scholarly, scientific and cultural record, in a first step towards establishing the VIVO project as part of a sustainable 501(c)(3) organization.
