The Library’s many partnerships and initiatives foster leadership and excellence in the preservation, discovery, transmission and application of knowledge, creativity and critical thought at the university and around the globe. Some of our current initiatives include:
Cornell Faculty Partnerships, which reach across disciplines to enhance research outcomes and provide greater access to faculty expertise and research results:
- arXiv: the premier repository for scientific papers in physics, math and computer science. It recently reached the impressive milestone of over 500,000 submissions.
- eclips: video shorts featuring real-world views from experts on topics related to business, entrepreneurship and leadership, created by a faculty member in Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
- Partners in Animal Health: a collection of innovative, reliable resources for veterinarians and pet owners, developed by experts at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Cornell Partnerships, which promote cross-disciplinary, cross-departmental collaborations that advance scholarship at Cornell:
- DISCOVER: a project sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost of Research to facilitate data-driven science at the university.
- Undergraduate Information Competency Initiative: exploring creative and effective ways to enhance undergraduate education by integrating research skills into the classroom and the curriculum.
- VIVO: a portal into who does what, where and how in all areas of research and scholarship at Cornell.
University Library Partnerships, which allow the Library and peer institutions to advance common goals and increase access:
- Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU): a digital collection highlighting the contributions of HBCUs to American history while encouraging scholarship.
- University of Rochester, eXtensible Catalog Project: design and development of open-source application to make library collections more accessible.
Corporate Partnerships, which expedite access to scholarly resources at the point of need and expand the discovery of knowledge to the world:
- Google Book Search Library Project: digitizing materials from Cornell’s unique holdings and making them available online to scholars and the public worldwide.
- Amazon.com: digitized books from Cornell’s rare and out-of-print materials are available as paperbacks using Amazon’s print-on-demand service.
Global Partnerships, which support the university’s land-grant mission through the dissemination of knowledge all over the world:
- AGORA: enables developing countries to gain access to an outstanding digital library collection of full-text articles from journals in the fields of food, agriculture, environmental science and related social sciences.
- International Labor Organization (ILO) Web Mirror Site: a partnership between the ILO in Geneva, Switzerland, and the Cornell Law Library for complete and simultaneous access of ILO’s materials.
